Future Plans

Sometime last fall I bought this Ruby fat quarter bundle. 

Irgendwann im letzten Herbst habe ich diesen Stoss Stoff gekauft.

Isn't it beautiful? I am so in love with those colors.

Sind die nicht wunderschön? Ich bin so verliebt in diese Farben.

So far I have made this quilt and and this pillowcase from it. 

Bis jetzt habe ich dieses Quilt und dieses Kopfkissen davon gemacht.

I still have strips of 8"x20" left over. I am going to cut those into 5" squares and use them to participate in this quilt-along! It looks like it's fairly easy and fast :-) Or maybe I am delusional? Either way... hopefully I will have one of these beauties soon:

Ich habe immer noch Stoffstreifen in der Größe 8"x20" übrig. Ich werde diese in 5"grosse Quadrate schneiden und sie in für dieses Quilt-along benutzen! Es scheint recht schnell und einfach zum nähen :-) Oder vielleicht bin ich nur wahnsinnig? Egal... hoffentlich werde ich bald eines dieser Schönheiten mein eigen nennen können:

Another Round

Do you remember those two greeting cards? I made those with  scraps from two baby quilts. I whipped those up last week because I had been lazy the last four weeks and the deadlines of the babyshowers were rapidly approaching!

Both baby quilts were made with a pattern from the Simplify book of Camille Roskelley and the fabric is the Wild Ones sold by Connecting Threads.

This baby quilt is the "Coming Home" pattern. The front:

For the back I used all the larger pieces of fabric that I had left over.

Fuer den Ruecken habe ich alle groesseren Stoffe die ich noch uebrig hatte zusammen genaeht.

It's just one yummy quilt!

Das Quilt ist wirklich schoen geworden!

Now I have to wrap them both up and hope that the receipients will like them as much as I do... :-)

Jetzt muss ich beide noch einpacken und hoffen das die Empfaenger sie genauso lieben werden wie ich ... :-)

Extra Blocks

I showed you the rainbow road wall hanging that I made last week in the curves class.

Ich habe dir ja schon denRegenbogenstrasse quilt den ich letzte Woche in dem Kurven Seminar genaeht habe gezeigt.

I had some blocks left over and no clue what to do with them. Pasha liked them... so I decided to make them in to pillow cover.

Ich hatte ein paar Bloecke uebrig und keine Ahnung was ich damit machen sollte. Pasha fand sie toll... so habe ich mich entschieden ihr ein Kopfkissenbezug zu naehen.

The back (envelope style) was sewn up with Amy Butler fabric that I had in my closet.

Fuer den Ruecken (Umschlag) habe ich einen Amy Butler Stoff aus meinen Schrank genommen.

She is happy with her new pillow cover and I am happy that  I used up all those blocks and that I didn't add to my scraps.

Sie ist gluecklich ueber ihren neuen Kopfkissenbezug und ich bin gluecklich das ich alle Bloecke aufgebraucht habe und keins davon in meine Restebox gelandet ist.

Curves Class - Week 2

I made it through the second week in the "Curves Class". All projects and lessons were about improvisational curves. It was quite an experience to say the least! I like being precise and structured. So playing with fabric without exact measurements and no ruler was quite scary. But I survived :-)

Ich habe die zweite Woche des Kurven Seminars geschafft. Alle Projekte und Lektionen waren ueber Improvisierte Kurven. Es war eine ganz eigene Erfahrung! Ich mag es wenn es praezise und strukturiert ist. So war es doch etwas erschreckend mit Stoff zu spielen ohne exakte Masse und Lineal. Aber ich habe es ueberlebt :-)

The first project was quite fast and easy. I made two greeting cards - here is one:

I really like them! I can see making a whole set of maybe 5 to have on hand for a quick b-day present!

Ich mag sie sehr! Ich kann mir vorstellen ein ganzes Set von 5 Karten zu machen fuer ein schnelles Geburtstagsgeschenk!

Next up was the Christmas tree wall hanging. I am not too happy with it. The slope on the left is just too big. It bugs me! Also the tree needed to be flipped!  But at that point I didn't want to piece another one so I just used it. Maybe I will make another one later on. Who knows!

Als naechstes kam der Weihnachts-Mini-quilt. Ich bin nicht sehr gluecklich damit. Der linke Berg ist einfach zu hoch geraten! Es stoert micht! Und der Baum haette eigentlich anders rum sein muessen. Aber zu dem Zeitpunkt hatte ich einfach keine Lust noch einen zu naehen und hab dann einfach den hier verwendet. Vieleicht mach ich ja spaeter eine weitere Version. Wer weiss!

Here is my version of the rainbow road. I really like the colors! But... yes, there is another but :-) ... but it really isn't me! I doesn't fit  in my house because it is just too modern! So I am going to find a good home for it...

Hier ist meine Version der Regenbogenstrasse. Ich mag die Farben sehr! Aber... ja, es gibt ein aber :-) ... aber es ist einfach nicht "ich"! Es passt nicht in meine Wohnung denn es ist einfach zu modern! So muss ich ein neues gutes Zuhause fuer ihn finden...

I do have some left over blocks from the rainbow road... I need to come up with a good use for them! Pasha likes them a lot. I might make her a pillow case!?

Scrap Project # 4 - Zakka Style Pot Holders

I never thought that I would have so much fun finding a good "home" for my scraps in my projects when I decided at the beginning of the year that I needed to do something about my ever-mulitiplying scraps. But I really do!

 Once again I chose a project from the Zakka Style book. (This book is a gold mine for scrap projects!)

Ich haette nie gedacht das ich so viel Spass haben werde ein schoenes zuhause in meinen Projekten fuer meine Reste zu finden als ich Anfang des Jahres mich dazu entschlossen hatte gegen meinen Resteberg anzukaempfen!

Ich habe mich wieder einmal fuer etwas aus dem Zakka Style Buch entschlossen. (Das Buch ist eine Goldmiene fuer Resteprojekte!)

As soon as I saw these potholders I knew that I wanted to make them! And as luck would have it, my best friend Jasmin (she is the best!) sent me some of that special heat resistant batting (I forgot the name... sorry!).

Sobald ich diese Topflappen gesehen habe, wusste ich das ich mir welche naehen wollte! Und wie es auch so sein soll hat Jasmin (sie ist die Beste!) mir spezielles Hitzebestaendiges Batting geschickt.

The project is pretty much straight forward. I only encountered one problem with the binding. But that was entirely of my own making and not because of the instructions. That's water under the bridge though as they turned out great ;-)

I am itching to make a couple more! I need them because my current potholders are so groddy they needed to be replaced yesterday and not tomorrow!

Das Projekt ist sehr einfach. Ich hatte nur ein Problem mit dem Binding. Aber das war mein eigenes Problem und nicht wegen der Anleitung. Lesen muss man halt koennen! Das ist aber jetzt Wasser unter der Bruecke denn die Topflappen sind grossartig geworden.

Ich habe grosse Lust noch ein paar zu machen! Ich brauche noch welche da meine jetzigen Topflappen so viele Brandflecken haben das sie eigentlich Gestern und nicht Morgen ersetzt werden muessten ;-)

Be My Valentine

Last night was the Teen Center Valentine's Day dance. Pasha was worried all week that she wouldn't be able to go with her being sick for a week. But it worked itself all out in the end :-)

Gestern Abend war der Teen Center Valentinstag Tanz. Pasha hat sich die ganze Woche Sorgen gemacht das sie nicht in der Lage sein würde daran teilzunehmen. Aber die ganze Sorge war umsonst :-)

She had a blast. Several boys went all googly-eyed (is that even a word?) over her! Good gosh, if this happens now what will happen in a couple of years? We will have to lock her up in her room :-)

Sie hatte soviel Spass. Ein paar Jungs haben sich in die Pasha verguckt. Meine Güte, wenn das jetzt schon passiert was wird dann erst in ein paar Jahren los sein? Wir werden sie in ihr Zimmer einsperren müssen... :-)

She can be so sweet... but then you turn around and her naughty side comes out :-)

Sie kann so Süß sein... aber dann dreht man sich um und ihre "Teufelshörner" kommen raus :-)

Curves Class - Week 1

As I told you a couple of weeks ago, I joined the curves class offered by Rachel Hauser from the stitched in color blog. Now that the first week has passed I can honestly tell you that I am loving this class.

The lecture on the first day cleared up a couple of "can't wrap my head around it" issues like 'concave'. I always had problems with it. But thanks to this class no more!

 I made two out of the three offered projects for this week.

First up was the banner. It was a very nice getting-used-to curves project:

Wie ich dir schon vor ein paar Wochen erzaehlt habe bin ich in dem Kurven Kurs. Nachdem jetzt die erste Woche vorbei ist kann ich dir ehrlich sagen das ich diesen Kurs liebe.

Die erste "Vorlesung" hat gleich ein paar Dinge geklaert und ich kann mir jetzt auch Konkav und Konvex merken!

Ich habe zwei der drei Projekte die diese Woche angeboten wurden gemacht.

Als erstes kam das Fahnenband.  Es war ein schoenes Kurven-kennen-lernen Projekt:

The second project that was offered were bibs. I don't have a use for bibs at  the moment so I didn't want to make them...

But the third project for the week was a clam shell pillow cover. I didn't have a zipper in the required size on hand and I wasn't really in the mood to make a pillow cover... so I decided that I would make a little wall hanging instead.

Das zweite Projekt das angeboten wurde waren Laetze. Da ich im moment wirklich keine Laetze brauche habe ich diese nicht gemacht.

Aber das dritte Projekt was ein Muschelkissen. Da ich aber keinen Reissverschluss in der angegebenen Groesse hatte und ich auch nicht wirklich Lust hatte ein Kissen zu naehen habe ich mich entschlossen es in einen Wandbehang umzuaendern.

I think I am going to hang this one up in my office... maybe :-) 

I am in the midst of Week 2 and hope to show you a picture of those finished projects soon!

A whole lot of scraps!

I was asked several times to show how many scraps I actually have. Imagine one big moving box filled to the hilt with scraps like this:

Ich wurde mehrmals darum gebeten meine Stoffreste zu zeigen. Stell dir eine grosse Umzugskiste gefüllt bis obenhin mit Stoffresten wie diese hier:

Now imagine that amount times 2... okay, okay make that times 3... fine!... times 4! But that's all I am going to own up to! ;-)

Jetzt stell dir diese Menge mal 2 vor... okay, okay, mach das mal 3... fein!... mal 4! Aber das ist auch das meiste was ich zugeben würde! ;-)

What are scraps to me? Well, anything that is smaller than a fat quarter in size that are left overs from a project. 

Was sind für mich Reste? Na ja, alles das kleiner als ein Fat Quarter ist das übrig geblieben ist von einem bestimmten Projekt.

As you can see, I have plenty to make many many more scrap projects. I wonder how much of my scraps will be left over by the end of the year?

Wie du sehen kannst, ich habe genug um noch jede Menge von Restprojekten bis zum Ende des Jahres zu machen?

Happy Valentine's Day

Today is Valentine's Day. I have never been sure what to think about Valentine's Day. On one side it's pretty nice! I mean who doesn't like to get a little bit of extra attention from your significant other. I definitely do! But on the other side, it's also the day where the most hurt feelings are caused. I see it all the time... people who are waiting for flowers or chocolates or a card from their partner and end up getting nothing for whatever reason. In all honesty, I don't need Valentine's day. I am one of the lucky ones.. Martin makes me feel special every single day. And not just me, Pasha too!

Heute ist Valentinstag. Ich weiss nicht was ich von Valentinstag halten soll. Auf der einen Seite ist es ganz nett! Ich mein wer mag es nicht etwas mehr Aufmerksamkeit von seinem Partner zu bekommen. Ich auf jeden Fall! Aber auf der anderen Seite ist es auch der Tag an dem viele traurig sind. Ich sehe es oft.... Leute die darauf warten das sie Blumen, oder Schokolade oder eine Karte kriegen und am Ende gar nichts bekommen fuer was auch immer einen Grund. Ich brauch wirklich keinen Valentinstag. Ich bin eine der Gluecklichen... Martin laesst mich jeden Tag wissen das ich etwas besonderes bin. Und nicht nur mich auch Pasha!

We both got gorgeous flowers and chocolates. But he also baked us some awesome oatmeal chocolate chip cookies (the best ever!) and he is making us a wonderful dinner.

Wir haben beide wunderschoene Blumen bekommen und unserer Lieblingsschokolade. Aber er hat uns auch tolle Schokolade - Haferflocken Kekse gebacken und macht uns ein klasse Abendessen.

Pasha (who is still sick and recovering in front of the TV LOL) loved it when Martin got on his knee presenting the flower and the chocolates to her asking her to be his Valentine. I told him that his future son-in-law is going to hate him because he set the bar so high :-)

Pasha (die immer noch krank ist und sich vor dem Fernseher erholt Grins!) fand es absolut toll das Martin vor ihr auf die Knie gefallen ist mit Rose und Schokolade in der Hand und sie gebeten hat sein Valentin zu sein. Ich hab ihm gesagt das sein zukuenftiger Schwiegersohn ihn hassen wird da er den Standard so hoch angesetzt hat :-)

Scrap Project # 1 - Update # 2

Swoon Update #2

I am so glad that I joined this quilt along! The stars/flowers are breath taking!

Each block is about 24.5" big and takes about 2 hours to sew. The instructions are great. But I have to admit that it is a bit tedious to deal with so many pieces for just one block. It makes you slow down as you assemble it. Otherwise the seam ripper will be your best friend! Knock on wood... I haven't had to use it much yet! :-)

Ich bin so froh das ich bei diesem Quilt along mit mache. Die Sterne/Blumen sind atemberaubend!

Jeder Block ist ca. 24.5" gross und man braucht etwa 2 Stunden zum nähen. Die Anleitung ist super. Aber ich muss zugeben das es etwas lästig ist mit so vielen Teilen rum zu hantieren. Man muss sich etwas  bremsen während des zusammen nähen. Ansonsten ist der Nahtauftrenner dein bester Freund! Toi, Toi Toi... bis jetzt musste ich den noch nicht oft benutzen!
