Sewing Machine Problems... Again!

Last night I was winding some thread on bobbins when I heard a click noise. I checked and found this:

Looks all innocent, right? Well, it's not! I checked and noticed that the bobbin thread guide came off the sewing machine. See, it belongs right in to that hole...

How did that happen? No idea...

We called a Pfaff sewing machine "Asbhy Sewing Machine Company" store in the States and the repair guide told us what to do. How awesome is that! Unfortunately we didn't have such tiny screw drivers. So we decided that I would take it to the local Pfaff dealer "Jocher Pfaff Naehzentrum" here in Garmisch. 

I called... they were so rude on the phone. They said I should take it back to where I bought it from! I told him that it really was a simple thing to fix and if he at least could take a look at it. The answer was no! He had 30 machines to fix between now and Christmas...! 

So Martin talked to a friend who had the right tools and fixed it himself. 

It took 5 minutes! Yep... 5 minutes! He took three screws out, put the guide back in, closed it back up and I am back in business!

I am such a lucky girl who has a husband who puts up with me and on top of it fixes my baby!

A Day to do "Nothing"

What a wonderful day we had! We stayed in bed until 09.00. Had a leisurly breakfast with a relaxing petting session for Jake.

 

 I love to see the love Pasha and Jake share. As soon as Pasha is sitting on the ground, he comes running over to lay at her feet to be petted. And she never sends him away without lots of love!

 

We went to lunch at our favorite Italian restaurant, window shopped a bit, tea with Steffi, a movie (Breaking Dawn Part 1)... and I even got to pin a quilt top.

 

The pattern is from this book! Quick and easy! But I can't decide on how to quilt it. Any suggestions?

 

A day like yesterday is so rare! It's treasured by us all! 'Thank You' to all the veterans who made it possible with their service and sacrifices!

What a Blast!

Thursday was my mom's last day with us! We went to Bollywood for some awesome lunch!

After that we shopped until we dropped! We started with finding some awesome shoe deals (50% off), went on to skirts, shirts and coats, and back to some shoes again. 

You don't want to know how much we spent combined on all our stuff ;-)

And to top it off, after shopping, my mom was able to finish quilting her top!

But pictures of the quilt will have to wait because she still has to finish the binding!

Sunday Ramblings

Yesterday I was all optimistic that the snow would not stick to the ground. Hah, now I am eating my words! Look at this....!!!! This is what we woke up to!

Pasha was all excited and ran out to get herself a portion of her favorite snack: fresh clean snow! :-)

But all is good when you get gorgeous flowers like these! It really makes you forget that there is snow right outside the door!

Happy Anniversary Martin! I am looking forward to many more sweet, chaotic and yet wonderful years with you!

The first Snow of 2012

If you squint really hard you can see the snow falling! It just started about 10 minutes ago. The ground is still too warm for it to stick! But it is a reminder of the many snowy days ahead of us...

Now that the costume sewing is over, I am going to start on some cozy fleece pyjama's for us. 

I have already 3 pairs cut out and hope to get them done today!

Oh, and I didn't know we had a dragon guarding our house!

A Cup of Mint Tea

A cup of fresh mint tea is something that I really enjoyed in SC. It reminds me of our breakfasts at Jasmin's house... lot's of happy memories! And the cake is a super delicious vegan carrot cake.

Ich habe wirklich gerne eine Tasse frischen Pfefferminz Tee in SC getrunken. Es erinnert mich an unsere Frühstücks bei Jasmin... viele glückliche Erinnerungen! Und der Kuchen ist ein voll leckerere veganischer Karottenkuchen.

Happiness

Do you ever wake up in the morning with that special feeling? You know that special feeling that life is just simply good... I am in love with my life! I have the most wonderful husband, a really special daughter, a dog that is close to perfect, parents and siblings that love me, friends that are truly special to me and a job that I truly enjoy. Yes, there are things that I would like to change... but they don't matter to my happiness. Life is truly good to me!

Wachst du jemals am Morgen auf mit dem besonderen Gefühl? Du weist schon das besondere Gefühl das  dir sagt das das Leben einfach gut ist... Ich bin in mein Leben verliebt! Ich habe einen wundervollen Mann, eine wirklich tolle Tochter, ein Hund der fast perfekt ist, Eltern und Geschwister die mich lieben, Freunde die wirklich etwas besonderes sind und einen Job den ich wirklich geniesse. Ja, es gibt Dinge die ich gerne ändern würde... aber die machen keinen Unterschied in meinen Glück. Das Leben ist wirklich gut zu mir!

A Busy Day!

Last Saturday was a really busy day. We got up at 06.30 to pack a picnic and to drive to Munich. You see we had tickets reserved to see this movie at 10.00:

Letzten Samstag war ein voll gepackter Tag. Wir sind um 06.30 aufgestanden um unser Piknik einzupacken und nach Muenchen zu fahren. Der Grund dafuer waren unsere reservierten Karten fuer die Filmvorstellung um 10.00:

Yes, the Hunger Games. We loved it! You know how sometimes the movie is a total disappointment because they are changing key scenes or too many details are off or completely left out. This is not the case with this movie. It is even less bloody and graphic than the books!

After that, we drove to the Olympia Park to enjoy our picnic. We actually picniced at the same spot that we went to when we were in Munich for the Tutenchamun exhibit. Unfortunately we couldn't put our quilt on the grass because there was just too much old and dried (falling to pieces) badger poop laying all over the place. But we spread it over the bench and had our lunch right there.

Danach sind wir zum Olympia Park gefahren. Wir haben unser Piknik an der gleichen Stelle gegessen wie das letzte mal as wir in Muenchen fuer die Tutenchamun Ausstellung waren. Leider konnten wir unsere Decke nicht ausbreiten da ueberall alter und vertrockneter Marderpoop rumlag. Aber wir haben die Decke ueber die Parkbank gelegt und dort unser Piknik gegessen.

At the end we fed some bread to the ducks and geese. What fun that was! By the way, Jake left the birds in peace :-)

Am Ende haben wir Brot an die Enten und Gaense verfuettert. Das hat wirklich Spass gemacht! Uebrigens hat Jake die Voegel komplett in Ruhe gelassen :-)

It started to rain an hour after we got there. So we packed up and drove back to Garmisch. There we went grocery shopping and then got ready for the annual PTA auction.

I was so ready  for bed by 22.00. But with clean up and folding another quick load of laundry, I actually didn't get back to bed until 23.30! It was a busy day but so much fun!

Nach einer Stunde fing es an zu regnen. So haben wir alles eingepackt und sind zurueck nach Garmisch gefahren.Dann noch schnell einkaufen und dann haben wir uns fertig gemacht um zur jaehrlichen Schulauktion zu gehen.

Um 22.00 war ich reif fuers Bett. Aber ich musste noch schnell saubermachen und einen Korb Waesche zusammen legen und bin erst gegen 23.30 in Bett gekommen. Es war viel los am Samstag und trotzdem hatten wir viel Spass.

Be My Valentine

Last night was the Teen Center Valentine's Day dance. Pasha was worried all week that she wouldn't be able to go with her being sick for a week. But it worked itself all out in the end :-)

Gestern Abend war der Teen Center Valentinstag Tanz. Pasha hat sich die ganze Woche Sorgen gemacht das sie nicht in der Lage sein würde daran teilzunehmen. Aber die ganze Sorge war umsonst :-)

She had a blast. Several boys went all googly-eyed (is that even a word?) over her! Good gosh, if this happens now what will happen in a couple of years? We will have to lock her up in her room :-)

Sie hatte soviel Spass. Ein paar Jungs haben sich in die Pasha verguckt. Meine Güte, wenn das jetzt schon passiert was wird dann erst in ein paar Jahren los sein? Wir werden sie in ihr Zimmer einsperren müssen... :-)

She can be so sweet... but then you turn around and her naughty side comes out :-)

Sie kann so Süß sein... aber dann dreht man sich um und ihre "Teufelshörner" kommen raus :-)

Happy Valentine's Day

Today is Valentine's Day. I have never been sure what to think about Valentine's Day. On one side it's pretty nice! I mean who doesn't like to get a little bit of extra attention from your significant other. I definitely do! But on the other side, it's also the day where the most hurt feelings are caused. I see it all the time... people who are waiting for flowers or chocolates or a card from their partner and end up getting nothing for whatever reason. In all honesty, I don't need Valentine's day. I am one of the lucky ones.. Martin makes me feel special every single day. And not just me, Pasha too!

Heute ist Valentinstag. Ich weiss nicht was ich von Valentinstag halten soll. Auf der einen Seite ist es ganz nett! Ich mein wer mag es nicht etwas mehr Aufmerksamkeit von seinem Partner zu bekommen. Ich auf jeden Fall! Aber auf der anderen Seite ist es auch der Tag an dem viele traurig sind. Ich sehe es oft.... Leute die darauf warten das sie Blumen, oder Schokolade oder eine Karte kriegen und am Ende gar nichts bekommen fuer was auch immer einen Grund. Ich brauch wirklich keinen Valentinstag. Ich bin eine der Gluecklichen... Martin laesst mich jeden Tag wissen das ich etwas besonderes bin. Und nicht nur mich auch Pasha!

We both got gorgeous flowers and chocolates. But he also baked us some awesome oatmeal chocolate chip cookies (the best ever!) and he is making us a wonderful dinner.

Wir haben beide wunderschoene Blumen bekommen und unserer Lieblingsschokolade. Aber er hat uns auch tolle Schokolade - Haferflocken Kekse gebacken und macht uns ein klasse Abendessen.

Pasha (who is still sick and recovering in front of the TV LOL) loved it when Martin got on his knee presenting the flower and the chocolates to her asking her to be his Valentine. I told him that his future son-in-law is going to hate him because he set the bar so high :-)

Pasha (die immer noch krank ist und sich vor dem Fernseher erholt Grins!) fand es absolut toll das Martin vor ihr auf die Knie gefallen ist mit Rose und Schokolade in der Hand und sie gebeten hat sein Valentin zu sein. Ich hab ihm gesagt das sein zukuenftiger Schwiegersohn ihn hassen wird da er den Standard so hoch angesetzt hat :-)

Sweet Dreams and Reality

Pasha is working on a project about Haiti for school. Yesterday evening she was looking for places to visit in Haiti and she came across so many beautiful beaches...

Pasha arbeitet an einem Schulprojekt ueber Haiti. Gestern Abend hat sie nach Plaetzen die man in Haiti sehen sollte gesucht und hat dabei so viele Bilder von Traumstraenden gefunden...

We were both daydreaming how nice it would be right now to swim and rest in the warm sun...

Wir haben beide angefangen darueber zu traeumen wie schoen es doch gerade jetzt waere dort zu schwimmen und sich in der warmen Sonne auszuruhen...

This morning I was confronted with the harsh reality... 12 inches (yeah, I measured!) of fresh snow... sigh!

Heute frueh wurde ich dann mit der harschen Realitaet konfrontiert... 30cm Neuschne (ja, ich habe es gemessen!) ... seufz!

Big Hopes

I was really hoping that this winter wouldn’t be as crazy as all those winters before! You are probably laughing right now. Yes, I know that we are living in the Alps and that snow, Winter and the Alps go hand in hand. But one can hope…

Ich hatte grosse Hoffnungen das dieser Winter nicht so verrueckt werden wuerde wie all die Winter zuvor! Ich weiss du lachst jetzt. Ja, ich weiss das wir in den Alpen leben und das Schnee, Winter und die Alpen Hand in Hand gehen. Aber man darf doch hoffen…

There is also this old farmer’s saying that if we don’t have a significant amount of snow by “3 holy kings” day or 6^th of January, that we would have a mild winter. And since we didn’t get much snow in November or December, I thought we were safe! But no! We started to get a foot of snow the day prior of the deadline! And it’s been snowing since!

Es gibt eine alte Bauernregel die besagt das wenn wir keinen richtigen Schneefall bis Heilige Drei Koenige oder 6. Januar haben , dann wird es ein milder Winter. Und weil wir nicht viel Schnee im November oder Dezember hatten, dachte ich das wir auf der sicheren Seite sind! Aber nein! Wir bekamen 55cm Schnee einen Tag vorm Schluss! Und seit dem schneit es!

This amount of snow was dumped on us the last 1.5 days! And according to the radio, the snow will continue to fall for the next 2 days!

Die Menge Schnee fiel in den letzten 1.5 Tagen! Und das Radio berichtet das wir weiterhin Schneefall haben fuer die naechsten 2 Tage!

Thank goodness for Martin though. He is taking care of all the shoveling! He does tease me every once in a while that he has a shovel with my name on it but never really follows through! HAHAHA

Aber Gott sei Dank fuer Martin. Er schaufelt alles alleine! Er aergert mich aber ab und zu das er eine Schaufel mit meinem Name drauf hat! HAHAHA
