A Busy Day!

Last Saturday was a really busy day. We got up at 06.30 to pack a picnic and to drive to Munich. You see we had tickets reserved to see this movie at 10.00:

Letzten Samstag war ein voll gepackter Tag. Wir sind um 06.30 aufgestanden um unser Piknik einzupacken und nach Muenchen zu fahren. Der Grund dafuer waren unsere reservierten Karten fuer die Filmvorstellung um 10.00:

Yes, the Hunger Games. We loved it! You know how sometimes the movie is a total disappointment because they are changing key scenes or too many details are off or completely left out. This is not the case with this movie. It is even less bloody and graphic than the books!

After that, we drove to the Olympia Park to enjoy our picnic. We actually picniced at the same spot that we went to when we were in Munich for the Tutenchamun exhibit. Unfortunately we couldn't put our quilt on the grass because there was just too much old and dried (falling to pieces) badger poop laying all over the place. But we spread it over the bench and had our lunch right there.

Danach sind wir zum Olympia Park gefahren. Wir haben unser Piknik an der gleichen Stelle gegessen wie das letzte mal as wir in Muenchen fuer die Tutenchamun Ausstellung waren. Leider konnten wir unsere Decke nicht ausbreiten da ueberall alter und vertrockneter Marderpoop rumlag. Aber wir haben die Decke ueber die Parkbank gelegt und dort unser Piknik gegessen.

At the end we fed some bread to the ducks and geese. What fun that was! By the way, Jake left the birds in peace :-)

Am Ende haben wir Brot an die Enten und Gaense verfuettert. Das hat wirklich Spass gemacht! Uebrigens hat Jake die Voegel komplett in Ruhe gelassen :-)

It started to rain an hour after we got there. So we packed up and drove back to Garmisch. There we went grocery shopping and then got ready for the annual PTA auction.

I was so ready  for bed by 22.00. But with clean up and folding another quick load of laundry, I actually didn't get back to bed until 23.30! It was a busy day but so much fun!

Nach einer Stunde fing es an zu regnen. So haben wir alles eingepackt und sind zurueck nach Garmisch gefahren.Dann noch schnell einkaufen und dann haben wir uns fertig gemacht um zur jaehrlichen Schulauktion zu gehen.

Um 22.00 war ich reif fuers Bett. Aber ich musste noch schnell saubermachen und einen Korb Waesche zusammen legen und bin erst gegen 23.30 in Bett gekommen. Es war viel los am Samstag und trotzdem hatten wir viel Spass.

And We have a Winner!

A long time ago (okay, it wasn't that long ago... it just feels that way!) we all guessed how long it would take for that huge mountain of snow in our backyard to melt. Some thought it would take a couple of days, others thought it would take a month!

This is how it looked like on the 4th of March! Not much had happened...

Vor langer Zeit (okay, es ist gar nicht so lange her... es fühlt sich nur so an!) haben wir alle geraten wie lange es dauern würde bis der grosse Schneeberg in unserem Garten weg ist. Einige dachten es würde ein paar Tage dauern, andere dachten es würde einen ganzen Monat dauern!

So sah er am 4.3 aus! Es ist noch nicht viel passiert...

It even snowed a couple of times adding a few inches on top of it. I really didn't like that at all!

Es hat sogar ein paar mal noch geschneit. Ich fand das gar  nicht toll!

But the temperatures started to climb steadily and the sun started to melt the mountain away.

Aber die Temperaturen sind stetig angestiegen und die Sonne hat angefangen den Berg weg zuschmeißen. Hier ist er am 9.3:

Lots of sunshine and a little bit of snow (if you look really closely!)

Viel Sonnenschein und ein bisschen Schnee (wenn du wirklich nah rangehst!)

And then finally, in the evening on the 23rd of March... when I came home from work... this is all that was left of it! Yeah, my snow mountain is gone and Spring is here!

Und dann endlich, am Abend des 23.3... als ich von der Arbeit nach Hause kam... das war alles das übrig blieb! Yup, mein Schneeberg ist weg und Frühling ist da!

I know you want to know who won! One person was off by one day only. Congratulations Al! I am putting your iTunes gift card in the mail. Of course, I am wondering if you are going to get something for yourself or if you are getting something for the kids? :-)

It's melting bit by bit

Even though the sun was shining and it was wonderfully warm outside... the snow mountain hasn't budged much...

Auch wenn draussen die Sonne geschienen hat und es wunderbar warm war... der Schneeberg ist nicht gerade viel geschmolzen...

It's supposed to be warmish tomorrow... I can't wait to see how much will be gone then!

Do you Know?

Today is the meteorological beginning of spring. I was really looking forward to this day! It is one step closer to the astrological beginning of Spring on the 20th of March!

Heute ist der Meterologische Fruehlingsanfang. Ich habe mich wirklich auf diesen Tag gefreut! Es ist ein Schritt naeher am astrologischen Fruehlingsanfang am 20.3.2012.

I don't normally pay attention to this! But this year I have been really tired of the cold and the snow  and can't wait for it to warm up! In fact it has been warm the last couple of days! It is so nice to walk outside and not freeze in to an instand icicle.

Ich pass da normalerweise nicht so auf. Aber dieses Jahr habe ich wirklich keine Lust mehr auf Schnee und Kaelte und kann es gar nicht abwarten bis es waermer wird! Die letzten paar Tage waren ja schon ein bisschen warm! Es ist so toll draussen zu laufen ohne sofort ein Eiszapfen zu sein.

So I was thinking that since I am in such a good mood that I would like to spread a bit of it... You see I have this huge pile of snow on the side of my drive way. And I was thinking that maybe I could keep track with a daily photo of how long it's going to take to melt away... But that's not all! I want you to participate. So I would like you to guess and give me a day when you think that it will be all gone! The one that chose the right day or came the closest will get this:

Da ich so gute Laune habe aufgrund des Fruehjahranfangs habe ich mir gedacht das ich das ein bisschen verbreiten muss... Ich hab diesen riesigen Berg von Schnee hinten in meiner Auffahrt. Und ich habe mir gedacht das ich ja davon jeden Tag ein Bild machen koennte um zu sehen wie lange es dauern wird bis das alles weg ist... Aber das ist noch nicht alles! Ich moechte das du mitmachst. Ich moechte das du ratest und mir einen Tag nennst wann alles weg geschmolzen ist! Derjenige der den richtigen Tag oder am naehesten dran war bekommt dann das:

One thing you have to keep in mind though... the day can be chosen by only one person. So if two people want to choose the 25th of March... well, the first one who chose that would get that date and the other person would have to choose another. Also, there are only a limited amount of days which equals to a limited number of people that can participate... so keep that in mind as well! :-)

Eins musst du aber bedenken... jeder Tag kann nur von einer Person gewaehlt werden. So wenn zwei Personen den gleichen Tag z.b. 25.3. waehlt... derjenige der als erstes gewaehlt hat bekommt ihn und die andere Person muss einen anderen Tag waehlen. Denke auch daran das es nur eine bestimmte Anzahl an Tagen gibt und somit nur eine begrenzte Anzahl an Personen die daran teilnehmen koennen! :-)

Future Plans

Sometime last fall I bought this Ruby fat quarter bundle. 

Irgendwann im letzten Herbst habe ich diesen Stoss Stoff gekauft.

Isn't it beautiful? I am so in love with those colors.

Sind die nicht wunderschön? Ich bin so verliebt in diese Farben.

So far I have made this quilt and and this pillowcase from it. 

Bis jetzt habe ich dieses Quilt und dieses Kopfkissen davon gemacht.

I still have strips of 8"x20" left over. I am going to cut those into 5" squares and use them to participate in this quilt-along! It looks like it's fairly easy and fast :-) Or maybe I am delusional? Either way... hopefully I will have one of these beauties soon:

Ich habe immer noch Stoffstreifen in der Größe 8"x20" übrig. Ich werde diese in 5"grosse Quadrate schneiden und sie in für dieses Quilt-along benutzen! Es scheint recht schnell und einfach zum nähen :-) Oder vielleicht bin ich nur wahnsinnig? Egal... hoffentlich werde ich bald eines dieser Schönheiten mein eigen nennen können:

Another Round

Do you remember those two greeting cards? I made those with  scraps from two baby quilts. I whipped those up last week because I had been lazy the last four weeks and the deadlines of the babyshowers were rapidly approaching!

Both baby quilts were made with a pattern from the Simplify book of Camille Roskelley and the fabric is the Wild Ones sold by Connecting Threads.

This baby quilt is the "Coming Home" pattern. The front:

Ich liebe die Elefanten!

For the back I used all the larger pieces of fabric that I had left over.

Fuer den Ruecken habe ich alle groesseren Stoffe die ich noch uebrig hatte zusammen genaeht.

It's just one yummy quilt!

Das Quilt ist wirklich schoen geworden!

Now I have to wrap them both up and hope that the receipients will like them as much as I do... :-)

Jetzt muss ich beide noch einpacken und hoffen das die Empfaenger sie genauso lieben werden wie ich ... :-)

Extra Blocks

I showed you the rainbow road wall hanging that I made last week in the curves class.

Ich habe dir ja schon denRegenbogenstrasse quilt den ich letzte Woche in dem Kurven Seminar genaeht habe gezeigt.

I had some blocks left over and no clue what to do with them. Pasha liked them... so I decided to make them in to pillow cover.

Ich hatte ein paar Bloecke uebrig und keine Ahnung was ich damit machen sollte. Pasha fand sie toll... so habe ich mich entschieden ihr ein Kopfkissenbezug zu naehen.

The back (envelope style) was sewn up with Amy Butler fabric that I had in my closet.

Fuer den Ruecken (Umschlag) habe ich einen Amy Butler Stoff aus meinen Schrank genommen.

She is happy with her new pillow cover and I am happy that  I used up all those blocks and that I didn't add to my scraps.

Sie ist gluecklich ueber ihren neuen Kopfkissenbezug und ich bin gluecklich das ich alle Bloecke aufgebraucht habe und keins davon in meine Restebox gelandet ist.
