Unexpected...

I never showed you the unexpected surprise package that I received from the mom of my best friend who I think of and feel that she is my sister!

It was the best package ever! I still have to mail my Thank You card. I am horrible in that! There is a small bet going on at work that that card won't make it in to the mail until next year Christmas! I am going to have to prove them wrong! :-)

Es war das beste Packet! Ich muss noch meine Danke Schoen Karte abschicken. Ich bin furchtbar darin! Es gibt eine kleine Wette in meiner Arbeit das ich es nicht fertig bringen werde die Karte vor naechstem Weihnachten abzuschicken! Ich werde denen das Gegenteil beweisen muessen! :-)

Scrap Project # 1

I found this quilt along!

This would work with my New Year's resolution to reduce my scraps. Yeah!

 I will need 56 blocks. I figure if I work on 5 blocks a week it I would be completely done sometime in April. 

Here is my first block! It took me about an hour which isn't too bad considering that the majority of the quilting is already done!

 

Ich habe dieses Quilt Mit! gefunden!

Ich werde mitmachen da ich ja an meinem Neujahrs Vorsatz (meine Reste zu reduzieren) damit folge. Yeah!

Ich brauche 56 Bloecke. Ich denke wenn ich 5 Bloecke pro Woche mache dann wuerde ich irgendwann im April ein komplettes Quilt haben.

Hier ist mein erster Block! Es hat eine Stunde gedauert was ja nicht schlecht ist da das Quilten ja fast fertig ist!

Baby Quilt

As promised, here is a picture of the baby quilt that I finished right before Christmas Eve.

Wie versprochen, hier ist ein Bild von dem Baby quilt das ich noch vor Weihnachten fertig gemacht habe.

It's made completely out of scraps. I had some charms left over from my snow ball quilt and paired it with a solid (Kona Bone) that I had on hand.

Es ist komplett von Resten gemacht. Ich hatte noch welche uebrig von meinem Snow Ball Quilt und habe sie mit Weiss (Kona Bone) kombiniert.

Speaking of scraps... One of my New Years Resolution is to work on reducing my scrap pile through out the year! We'll see how that will work out!

Da wir gerade ueber Reste sprechen... eins meiner Neujahrs Vorsaetze ist den Resteberg waehrend des Jahres zu reduzieren. Wir werden ja sehen ob das was wird!

New Years Resolutions Update

For once I actually made my dead line. You know that I circled that day on the day with a big fat red marker! So throughout the year when I don't make my self-imposed dead lines, I will look fondly back at that day and not kill myself over it :-)

Ausnahmsweise habe ich es diesmal geschafft meinen eigene Termin einzuhalten! Du weisst schon das ich diesen Tag im Kalender fett mit Rot angemalt habe. So wenn ich dann im Rest des Jahres meine Termine nicht einhalte, kann ich immer noch auf diesen Tag zurueck blicken und wissen das ich mich deswegen nicht gleich umbringen muss :-)

Here is my first set of binders. Those binders are the ones that I constantly (1-3 times a week) need access to. So it just made sense to put them on the bookshelf in our study where I do all the bill paying, emailing and sorting through things. The black box contains all our important documents like birth certificates, innoculation passes, marriage certificates, passports and so on. So if the house is ever on fire, I just grab that box and we should be "good" to go...

Hier ist mein erstes Set von Ordnern. Diese Ordner brauch ich mindestens 1-3 mal die Woche. So macht es einfach Sinn das ich sie im Regal in unserem Arbeitszimmer wo ich Rechnungen zahle, emaile und Papiere durch sortiere, untergebracht habe. Die schwarze Box haust unsere wichtigen Papiere wie Geburtsurkunde, Impfpaesse, Hochzeitsurkunde, Paesse und vieles mehr. So wenn hier jemals ein Feuer ausbrechen wuerde, nehme ich mir die Box und wir sollten "okay" sein... 

The other binders were put away out of sight. I rarely need access to them anyway maybe once or twice a year if that!

Die anderen Ordner habe ich weggeraeumt. Ich brauch vieleicht ein bis zweimal Zugriff im Jahr dazu wenn nicht weniger!

It just makes me smile!

My best friend Jasmin sent me the nicest gift ever! I had tears in my eyes when I opened it! I am still speechless. I don't know how to express what I am feeling when I look at it except it just makes me smile!

Meine beste Freundin Jasmin hat mir das schoenste Geschenk gemacht! Ich hatte Traenen in den Augen als ich es aufgemacht habe! Ich bin immer noch sprachlos. Ich weiss nicht wie ich ausdruecken soll was ich fuehle ausser das es jedes Mal ein Laecheln auf mein Gesicht zaubert wenn ich es anschaue!

Two Quilts

Do you remember the three quilts that I needed to finish before Christmas Eve? Well, I kind a made it. The baby quilt was finished the day prior. Unfortunately I don't have a picture of it yet!

Kannst du dich an die drei Quilts erinnern die ich bis zum Weihnachtsabend fertig machen musste? Na ja, ich hatte es so-so geschafft. Die Babydecke habe ich am Tag vor Weihnachten fertig genaeht. Leider habe ich noch kein Bild davon machen koennen!

But I do have a picture of the green and white quilt that I made for my nephew. This quilt got also done the day prior to Christmas Eve. My nephew is a big fan of a soccer club in Fuerth. Their colors are green and white. I used this tutorial as I have done before. It is so easy that I have used it myself twice already and once for helping my mom with her first quilt which is still a work in progress.

Aber ich habe ein Bild von der Gruen und Weissen Decke die ich fuer meinen Neffen gemacht habe. Das quilt habe ich auch am Tag vor Weihnachten fertig genaeht. Mein Neffe ist ein grosser Fan des Fuerther Fussball Clubs deren Farben Gruen und Weiss sind. Ich habe diese Anleitung benutzt. Die ist so einfach das ich selbst schon zwei Quilts davon gemacht habe und diese auch benutzt habe um meiner Mutter bei ihrem ersten Quilt (das noch in Arbeit ist!) zu helfen.

The other quilt is the grey-burgundy one for my brother. Unfortunately I didn't get that one done until 3 days after Christmas The fabric was meant for the quilt for Salem. But I made a cutting mistake and didn't notice that until I was ready to assemble it. So I had to salvage as much as I could  and make up another pattern and this is what came out. My brother really likes it. I hope it brightens his day a bit!

Das andere Quilt is Grau und Burgunder fuer meinen Bruder. Leider habe ich es erst 3 Tage nach Weihnachten fertig naehen koennen. Die Stoffe waren uerspruenglich fuer Salem's Quilt gedacht. Aber ich habe beim zuschneiden nicht aufgepasst und habe das nicht gemerkt bis ich alles schon zugeschnitten hatte. Um zu retten was zu retten gab habe ich mir ein anderes Muster ausgedacht and dies ist was dabei rauskam. Mein Bruder mag es sehr. Ich hoffe es bringt etwas Farbe in seinen Tagesablauf!

I ordered the same fabric again to make Salem's quilt. I hope I will pay better attention this time! :-)

Ich habe die selben Stoffe nochmal bestell um Salem's Quilt zu naehen. Ich hoffe ich werde dieses mal besser aufpassen! :-)

Christmas Day

My dad was very emotional because he got a really nice Canon EOS camera from all of us.

Mein Vater war sehr gerührt über die wirklich coole Canon EOS Kamera die er von uns allen bekommen hat.

Martin also hit the bulls eye with his present! He must have taken a look at my house shoes that I bought back during my short stay in Atlanta. They don't look too bad, right? LOL

Martin hat auch mit seinem Geschenk an mich ins Schwarze getroffen. Er muss sich die Hausschuhe die ich mir während meines kurzen Urlaubs in Atlanta gekauft habe wohl etwas näherer angeschaut haben! :-)

Pasha got some "retro" skates from Steffi! I had turquoise ones as a kid! I loved them, and she loves hers too! She got up on Christmas day and put them on right away. She was driving all over the apartment with them!

Pasha had "Retro" Rollschuhe von Steffi bekommen! Ich hatte tuerkise als Kind! I habe sie geliebt, und auch sie liebt ihre! Sie ist am ersten Weihnachtstag aufgestanden und hat sie sofort angezogen. Sie ist damit durch die ganze Wohnung gesaust!

Pasha started to experiment with you Chemistry set that my best friend sent her. The grossest stuff was put together and my mom and I were forced to try it while playing Quirkle!

Pasha hat angefangen rum zu experimentieren mit dem Kit den meine beste Freundin ihr geschickt hat. Die ekligsten Sachen sind da raus gekommen die ich und meine Mutter natürlich probieren mussten während wir Quirkle spielten!

Ich habe Schluessel Anhaenger als kleine Geschenke fuer den Strumpf gemacht.

One of Martin's presents was a handmade lunch bag. I really tried to make it with manly colors but am unsure if it worked! Pasha's comment was: "Is it a purse? For him? Now that's just wrong!" But Martin loves it and is using it quite a bit so far! His comment was: "It's better than a plastic bag!" You can interpret it now however you want! :-)

Eins von Martin's Geschenken war eine genähte Pausenbrot Tasche. Ich habe versucht es mit "männlichen" Farben zu nähen aber ich weiss nicht ob es mir gelungen ist! Pasha's Kommentar war: "Ist es eine Handtasche? Für ihn? Das passt einfach nicht!" Aber Martin mag es und benutzt es soweit ganz fleissig! Sein Kommentar war: "Es ist besser als eine Plastiktüte!" Du kannst es jetzt so wie du willst interpretieren! :-)

We also made him a cover for his iPad. This one is really nice and he truly loves it! Turquoise on the inside and black on the outside! I would like one too! 

We haben ihm auch eine Tasche für sein iPad gemacht. Es ist wirklich gut geworden und er mag sie wirklich sehr! Türkis innen, und aussen Schwarz! Ich hätte auch gern eine!
