Free Motion Quilting

This is the quilt top that I would like to quilt tonight. I am undecided on how to do that. I could do the all over meandering... or I could do the stitch-in-the-ditch. But I would really like to do feathers in the block. I haven't done any of them ever. And it is rather ambitious and I really don't want to mess it up...

So I practiced a bit! I made a little muslin about 30"x35" and drew some blocks with my highlighter on it.

I quilted some feathers in the first couple of boxes. But I really didn't like the result. I couldn't really see the white thread on the muslin too well.

Then I thought, what the heck, why not draw the feather in the box and then quilt it.

I think this is what I am going to do. But first I have to get a marking pencil that shows up on dark fabric :-)
